Attendance at the seminar was enlightening, and both Steve and Dave found the open and honest nature of Ip Chun, Si Gung and Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe to be refreshing and parallel to their philosophies. Without hesitation, Steve and Dave requested to be accepted as students of Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe and Midlands Wing Chun Kuen.
Steve and Dave were subsequently accepted as students and travelled every week to attend classes in Birmingham and once a month for private sessions. Anything learned from Sifu Rawcliffe was brought back to their own students developing a core training group.
A close bond developed between Steve, Dave and Sifu Rawcliffe and they spent many hours training and promoting Wing Chun. Many opportunities opened for Steve and Dave at this time a highlight of which came in 1996 when they first visited Hong Kong to train with Ip Chun Si Gung personally at his classes. This was the first of many trips to Hong Kong undertaken with groups, and individually, spanning a period of 22 years.
In 1994 CWCK made a full transition to become a Midlands Wing Chun Kuen organisation-associated and recognized school and Cheltenham Wing Chun Kuen (CWCK) was formerly created by Steve and Dave bringing all of their students under the MWCK family banner.
One of the members of Steve and Dave’s core training group was Simon Moore who started his training in 1991 and closely shared their journey through the years. Simon has been part of CWCK since its inauguration and has been its most senior student of all time starting to teach in 2000. Simon became ‘Sifu Moore’ in 2007 when he started his own class in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. To this day Sifu Moore remains part of The Wing Chun Collective, and close friends to Steve and Dave, via his own classes delivered in Pembrokeshire, Wales through Cymru Wing Chun Kuen.
